The Accessories Needed For Metallurgical Microscopes
Metallurgical microscopes, as the name suggests, are microscopes that are primarily used for the metallographical inspection of certain types of metals in a laboratory setup or an industrial plant. Most metallurgical microscopes are self-contained and portable, which incidentally also makes it a lot more convenient for users to add several accessories to it.
As stated previously, metallurgical microscopes are commonly used in plants and industrial sites. Given the practical application of these microscopes, the need to attach different accessories to them for better functionality becomes eminent. Below is a list of different accessories that are almost a necessity to every metallurgical microscope used regardless of its actual application:
1. Digital Microscope Camera System. A digital camera attached to a metallurgical microscope allows for an option to produce high-resolution digital images coming from the eyepiece or the photo port of the microscope. A camera with 5 to 6 mega pixels range of resolution should be enough, although higher models can be obtained for better image quality.
A digital microscope camera usually comes complete with at least 32 megabytes of built-in memory or a memory card. These devices use USB technology and also come with a cable so it can be plugged conveniently to a personal computer. Accessories such as the battery and the charger are normally included in the package.
2. Video Capture System. Every metallurgical microscope used in an industrial plant should be equipped with a high-resolution video system. This ensures that every image observed through the microscope are conveniently recorded and stored for future reference. Most metallurgical microscopes come with an optical base and that makes the installation of a video system a lot simpler.
However, when buying a video system for a metallurgical microscope, its output should also be determined. There are normally two options to be considered - the S-video and digital video output jacks. Which one you should pick depends entirely on your preference and the resources that are readily available to you. The video capture system is much like the digital microscope camera. Only this one has the ability to record moving objects and not merely still images.
3. Output System. If you either have a digital or a video camera attached to your metallurgical microscope, you must find a way to create a viewable output of the stored images. Either it’s going to be a regular computer system to a high-resolution video system, this one’s equally important.
If given a choice between black and white or color video outputs, the latter is always the better choice. Black and white video capture systems are almost obsolete, and they do not work well because of their monochrome shade. A colored video capture system is more preferable.
The best output system should be able to accurately show the color, the size, and the form of the image being viewed under the microscope failure to comply with this requirement may possibly create confusion in the future.
A video output system can be used in seminars, meetings, trainings, and conferences that require the audience or participants to view the subject being talked about. A video system is a very ideal educational tool.
4. Still Image and Video Printing System. A soft copy of the video or the image is usually good enough. But there are times that hard copy or an actual printout becomes necessary. In an industrial setup, documenting of files and passing of memos within the organization is a common thing. For this, a high quality image printer is needed.
Metallurgical microscope colored printers may vary in print size, memory, and resolution. Some printers produce images in a 4×5 inch of prints, while there are those that are capable of printing images larger than that. For videos, some of them can print for up to 1 minute worth of motion through the use of successive image printing technology. And of course, some can be set to print several minutes longer than that.
There are also color printers that are big in performance as well as features. Ideal features of a metallurgical microscope printer would be multi-screen printing, cropping, and freeze action. It is also very important that you can print into the device without the need for a personal computer connected to either the printer or the microscope.
These are the different accessories that you can use along with your metallurgical microscope. Depending upon the actual application of the device, these accessories can actually grow to be a necessity. Maximize the use of your microscope with each of these accessories. Better performance is achieved only if the best appendages are made to work with it.
